Tropical storm warnings were extended up to Surf City, North Carolina, as Tropical Storm Chantal churned off the coast of the southeastern U.S. on Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Chantal made landfall near Litchfield Beach, South Carolina, at approximately 4 a.m. July 6 and is moving inland into South Carolina.

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Chantal grew in strength as it approached the southeast U.S. coast. It's forecasted to bring heavy rains to parts of the Carolinas on Sunday. Tropical storm warnings were issued for portions of the two states, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
