The well-known Mexican boxer was detained by U.S. immigration agents in California on Wednesday, days after fighting a high-profile contest against the former YouTuber Jake Paul.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Famed Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. has been arrested for overstaying his visa and lying on a green card application and will be deported to Mexico, where he faces organized crime charges, U.S. federal officials said Thursday.

Chavez Jr., the son of former three-division world champion of boxing Julio Cesar Chavez and older brother of Omar Chavez, held the WBC's middleweight title from 2011 to 2012 and has an all-time record of 54-7-1. His arrest comes just days after his most recent match, a loss to Jake Paul at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
