It makes sense considering Thornton’s struggles during his run in New England. There was hope that he’d turn into a major contributor considering the team doled out a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft to get him. But all they got in return was 39 receptions for 385 yards and two touchdowns in two-and-a-half years on the roster.

A second-round pick out of Baylor, Thornton was selected with the 50th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-2 receiver was selected four picks ahead of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore, who remains on injured reserve with a core muscle injury.
