The NBA All-Star Game served a critical purpose when it was conceived. All the way back in 1951, the basketball world was rocked by point-shaving scandals at the college level.

During halftime of the All-Star Game, the league will honor the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team with players from every decade of the NBA’s existence in attendance for the diamond anniversary.

21 years ago, NBA fans were treated to one of, if not the best NBA All-Star Game of all time. It also just so happened to be the 50th anniversary of the very first All-Star Game.

It was Houston’s first NBA All-Star Game – the city has gone on to host two more at Toyota Center – and the city set a league attendance record when 44,735 fans showed up for the party.
