The Rangers made the decision place Burger on the IL on Wednesday because it allowed them to backdate the injury to Sunday. It means he would be eligible to return July 23 when the Rangers face the “Parts Unknown” Athletics. The Rangers could not wait any longer to make a move and get the benefit of the maximum backdate ability.
