The Mayo Clinic says surgeons there successfully performed a face transplant for a Michigan man who was severely injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound 10 years ago.

A nearly 60-hour-long surgery that began in February and involved more than 80 health care professionals, Mayo Clinic officials said.

The team behind Derek Pfaff's transformational surgery said the procedure took around 50 hours and was performed by at least 80 team members.
