The New York Islanders picked up a point, but left one on the table, in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Saddledome. Pierre Engvall opened the scoring in the second period, while Rasmus Andersson’s power-play goal tied the score 8:17 into the third.

Dustin Wolf made 28 saves in regulation and was perfect on two shots faced in the shootout as the Calgary Flames rallied to a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Andrei Kuzmenko deked backhand and lifted a shot over the blocker of New York goalie Semyon Varlamov in the second round of the shootout before Justin Kirkland shot low glove by Varlamov in the third. Wolf stopped both shooters he faced. Rasmus Andersson scored for the Flames (10-6-3), who have won three of four.

The Islanders ought to be heading back over the border with three wins in four games so far on this trip, thrilled not just with how they’re playing, but with the results they’re getting. Instead, they are flying to Detroit looking to salvage a 2-1-2 record out of this five-game trip,
