A catastrophic Independence Day weekend in Texas will close with more rain and, in some cases, serious threats including quarter-size hail and high winds. A flash flood watch is in effect to begin the day in a terribly hit part of the state, as well.

A swift-moving flood that swept through the Hill Country of Texas on Friday, killing at least 32 people and leaving many more missing, was a flash flood.

At least 70 people are dead in central Texas after devastating flash floods slammed Texas Hill Country, with water rescues taking place along the Guadalupe River, which rose rapidly early Friday morning to the height of a two-story building.

The deadly floods that struck Texas on the 4th of July caught local officials off guard as the torrential rains caused the Guadalupe River to rise to near-historic levels in a matter of minutes, officials said at a press conference Saturday.

Thunderstorms and moisture from the Gulf were among the ingredients that led to catastrophic weather and flooding in the Hill Country.
