Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Abu Dhabi this week, marking his first visit to the UAE since the war with Russia began. His trip comes as momentum builds for potential peace talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met with the leader of the United Arab Emirates, wrapping up an overseas trip that saw the highest-level outreach between the United States and Russia since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

U.S. President Donald Trump last week suggested he would be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia. The UAE long has been floated as a possible site for peace talks as well.

Zelenskyy has traveled to the UAE since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, but this trip is Zelenskyy’s first to the UAE since the war began.

A major milestone of the visit was the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Ukraine
