In the latest grocery industry shakeup, Aldi has sold the iconic Winn-Dixie grocery chain it acquired less than a year ago. Aldi said it will keep the Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets it plans to convert into Aldi stores. But it is getting rid of the rest.

BATAVIA, ILL. — Grocery store chain Aldi USA recently confirmed that it plans to open more than 225 new locations in 2025 in the next phase of its five-year national growth strategy. The company said it would be the most stores it opens in one year since entering the US market.

Grocery chain Aldi has sold off Southeastern Grocers, which includes the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket banners, to a consortium of private investors. The consortium is led by Southeastern Grocers President and CEO Anthony Hucke and the chain C&S Wholesale Grocers,

In a Feb. 7 announcement, ALDI announced that it is continuing its five-year expansion plan by adding 225 new locations across the U.S., mainly in the Southeast.

At least one Winn-Dixie store in Pensacola is still planning to be converted into an Aldi despite selling stores back to Southeastern Grocers.

Aldi this month announced plans to open more than 225 store locations in 2025 as part of its five-year national growth strategy and at least four locations will be in Michigan. Aldi is investing $13 million to bring three new grocery stores to Hillsdale,

Aldi's five-year national growth strategy also includes expanding to locations in Las Vegas and the Southeast coast while continuing to expand its footprint in the Midwes t, the company said. By 2028, the chain expects to increase its footprint by 800 stores as part of a continuing expansion.

ALDI aims to open 225 new locations by 2025, including 100 converted stores from Southeastern Grocers, to strengthen its presence in the U.S. market.

In March 2024, Aldi acquired Southeastern Grocers and announced it would convert the two grocery stores into Aldi's. For the Treasure Coast, that meant converting two Winn-Dixie locations; there are no Harveys locations here.
