Yum! Brands which owns the fried chicken chain KFC has announced plans to move the brand's U.S. headquarters to Plano, Texas.

KFC is uprooting its headquarters from its home state of Kentucky. The food chain will now be based in Plano, Texas. KFC's ties to its home state are almost a century old. Founder, Colonel Sanders started feeding travelers in Kentucky back in 1930.

Yum! Brands said it will consolidate its US offices, relocating about 200 corporate workers as a result. The company’s two main locations will be in Plano, Texas, and Irvine, California, according to a statement Tuesday.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is being uprooted from its ancestral home state in a shake up announced Tuesday by its parent company that will relocate the chain's U.S.

In the press release, Yum! Brands Chief Executive Officer David Gibbs said this transfer will benefit the brand in the near future.

Some of Louisville's elected officials believe the city has reached an inflection point after Yum! Brands dropped the bombshell that home-grown, and internationally known, Kentucky Fried Chicken would be moving its U.

Churchill Downs is still waiting on approval of incentives that must get the green light first from the Louisville Metro and then from the appropriate state agencies, including the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. On Tuesday, KFC’s parent company Yum! Brands announced KFC will be moving it’s corporate headquarters from Louisville, to Plano, Texas.

Pizza Hut, KFC’s sister brand, already has its HQ in Plano, where KFC will be run. KFC started in a motel in a small town in Kentucky 95 years ago and continued its operations in the Bluegrass State.
