A key member of the Texas football defensive coaching staff is leaving the school and heading to the NFL for the 2025 season, according to reports. Texas secondary coach Terry Joseph is expected to join the New Orleans Saints as a defensive assistant this season,

The New Orleans Saints have added a new defensive passing game coordinator to their coaching staff. Per reports, Terry Joseph will be hired for the role. On Monday, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network was the first to report that the Texas Longhorns assistant is leaving the program to become the defensive passing game coordinator for the Saints.

For Texas, Joseph's departure means Steve Sarkisian and company have now lost three assistants to promotions either in responsibilities or playing level. Safeties coach Blake Gideon is now the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, and running backs coach Tashard Choice took the same position with the Detroit Lions .

Four days after the Texas Longhorns announced additions to head coach Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff, including a new running backs coach and a new cornerbacks coach, Sarkisian will have to conduct another search after news broke on Monday morning from multiple outlets that defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach Jerry Joseph is leaving to become the defensive backs coach for his hometown New Orleans Saints.
