"We agree with all Security Council colleagues that the conflict in Sudan requires a swift resolution. It is also clear that the only way to achieve this is for the warring parties to agree to a ceasefire," Deputy Russian U.N. Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy told the meeting.

Any action taken by the United Nations Security Council must genuinely respect Sudan's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong said on Monday.

Britain will seek backing from other United Nations Security Council members on Monday for its demand that Sudan's warring parties stop hostilities and allow deliveries of aid, the British foreign ministry said.
