Following days of unrest in which the opposition seized government buildings, the leader of Georgia's separatist region of Abkhazia has resigned.

Protesters stormed the parliament of the Russian-backed breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia on Friday and opposition politicians demanded the resignation of the self-styled president over an unpopular investment agreement with Moscow.

Protesters against the investment agreement with Russia tore down part of the fence surrounding the parliament building and entered the premises.
