Liverpool have been searching for a new striker this summer and are edging closer to signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitiké.
Manchester United tried to sign Hugo Ekitike, but could not convince him about a switch to Old Trafford. Per transfer expert David Ornstein, “Man United made a push for him last week, but he had already committed to Liverpool.”
Ekitike’s former youth coach Jean-Philippe, AKA ‘Nano’, spoke with GOAL in 2021 and explained some of the qualities he exuded as a young boy, which have continued into his playing career as an adult.
Ekitiké was curiously assigned the No. 44 shirt after signing for PSG, indicating his minor significance, although he did enjoy run-outs with 9 and 15 in pre-season. His forgettable spell in Paris was followed up by what looks to have been a career-igniting move to Eintracht Frankfurt. Ekitiké exclusively wore No. 11 in Germany.
Newcastle have reportedly turned to Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa instead as they look for a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left St James’ Park when his contract expired.
